The first high-level ad hoc working group meeting for the 5th GECF Gas Summit, held at the GECF Headquarters in Doha, Qatar, took place on July 18.
Representatives of the GECF Member States and Observers – including GECF Secretary General Yury Sentyurin – were updated on conference speakers, sponsors and exhibitors by event organizers Africa Oil & Power (AOP), who embarked on a week-long tour of the Middle East to promote the summit.
The AOP team also travelled to GECF observer member Oman, where they met with the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the CEO of Oman LNG, Harib Al Kitani, to present an overview of the 5th GECF Heads of State Summit and the 2nd International Gas Seminar – which is part of the event.
The GECF has several strategic objectives including increased coordination between member states and observers and the strengthening of collaboration among its members.
To achieve these goals, the GECF closely follows global gas exploration and production trends by elaborating present and projected supply and demand for natural gas and monitors the latest gas exploration developments globally.
Equatorial Guinea will host the 5th GECF Summit, taking place on November 26-29 in Malabo.
The high-profile event will be held at the Sipopo International Conference and Exhibition Center and will be attended by the heads of state of GECF member countries. The 2nd International Gas Seminar will be held during the summit on November 27 at the same venue and is open to the public.
It will consist of a broad spectrum of sessions and presentations given by both public and private sector gas leaders engaged in natural gas operations around the world. It will be the first time that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum is being held in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Organized every two years, the GECF Gas Summit brings together Heads of State and government officials of the members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, including Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
The summit provides these top-level officials an avenue to discuss trends in the gas market and potential policies for the energy sector and to collaborate.
Confirmed speakers at this year's event include H.E. Luis Alberto Sanchez Fernandez, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Bolivia; Tony Attah, CEO and Managing Director of Nigeria LNG; HE Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, T & T; H.E. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi, Minister of Oil & Gas, Oman, H.E. Manuel Quevedo, Minister of Petroleum, Venezuela; H.E. Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum, Egypt; Professor Joe M. Kang, President, International Gas Union and H.E. Dr Sun Xiansheng, Secretary-General, International Energy Forum.
